China predicted to lead the electric truck market

As Reuters notes, traditional automakers have been postponing commercial electric trucks, giving way to EV makers like Maxus, a brand of China's SAIC Motor Corp, in the European market. Consumers looking for more affordable and cheaper alternatives haven't seen enough electric trucks from companies like Ford Motor, Stellantis NV Peugeot, Renault or Mercedes. In turn, Chinese companies such as SAIC are beginning to capture market share, including with Maxus electric trucks, which have an important advantage over older car manufacturers that are just beginning to electrify their lineups. SAIC sold 18,000 Maxus vehicles in Europe last year, including buses and pickup trucks, and plans to expand further into Central Europe. At the same time, traditional automakers prefer to produce large-capacity electric passenger car models for the time being due to the lack of materials for electric vehicle batteries.
