Russia took control of the factories "Baltika" and "Danone"


Russian dictator Vladimir Putin transferred the shares of foreign companies in Russia to Baltika and Danone's subsidiaries to the management of the Federal Property Management Agency, earlier the companies announced the sale of their assets in the Russian Federation


The list of assets transferred to the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency under the presidential decree of April 25, 2023, which until now included only generating companies (Fortum and Unipro), was replenished by two large assets of the food industry.


According to the decree of July 16, published on the official Internet portal of legal information, shares in Baltika Brewing Company LLC and shares in Danone Russia JSC are transferred to the Federal Property Management Agency.


Thus, 100% of Baltika was transferred to the Federal Property Management Agency, including 98.56% owned by the Swedish legal entity Carlsberg, 0.09% by the German legal entity Carlsberg and 1.35% by Hoppy Union LLC.


Earlier, Carlsberg Group, which announced plans to leave the Russian market in March 2022, announced that it had signed an agreement on the sale of the Russian business, the concern did not name the future owner of Baltika.


"Baltika" - the second largest brewing company in Russia, operates 8 factories in Russia.


The company's revenue in 2022 increased to 100.7 billion rubles from 82.6 billion rubles in 2021, net profit increased 1.9 times, to 9.952 billion rubles. Last year, Baltika produced 197.42 million decaliters of products, which is 4.7% less than in 2021.


In addition, 100% of the Russian business of Danone (83 billion 292 million 493 thousand shares of Produits Laitiers Frais Est Europe and 85 thousand shares of Danone Trade) went under the temporary management of the Russian Federation.


French Danone in October last year announced the transfer of control in the business of producing dairy products in Russia. The media reported on many contenders for the purchase of the business, including major Russian food producers, including Rusagro Group, Cherkizovo Group, Chernogolovka Group, EkoNiva Group, Rumelko, Agrocomplex im. N.I. Tkachev and AFK "Sistema" (owns the agricultural holding "Steppe").


As reported in the statements of Danone Russia (production of dairy products), the company's net profit in 2022 decreased to 5.57 billion rubles from 8.85 billion rubles in 2021. At the same time, revenue increased to RUB 92.9 billion from RUB 85.1 billion in 2021 (up 9.1%).
