US stocks closed lower, Dow Jones down 0.32%


The US stock market ended Friday's trading with a fall caused by negative dynamics in the sectors of technology, consumer services and finance.


By the close of the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones was down 0.32%, the S&P 500 was down 0.37% and the NASDAQ Composite was down 0.68%.


Among the components of the Dow Jones index, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) led the gainers, gaining 2.03% to close at 32.67. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) rose 1.54% to 36.37. Shares of Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) edged up 1.21% to close at 228.91.


Shares of Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) led the decline with a 1.74% loss to close at 91.32. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.66% to close at 342.33, while UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was down 1.59% to close at 458. 49.


Among the S&P 500 components, the top performers were Ball Corporation (NYSE:BALL), which rose 7.23% to hit 58.43, and Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), which added 5.94% to close at level 35.85. DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) also rose 3.69% to close at 6.47.


Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc (NYSE:ARE) was the biggest loser, shedding 4.70% to close at 115.45. Shares of Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM) shed 3.92% to end the session at 445.65. EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) was down 3.62% to 219.59.


Among the components of the NASDAQ Composite Index, Scworx Corp (NASDAQ:WORX) led the gains, up 75.67% to hit 0.66, and Oncorus Inc (NASDAQ:ONCR), up 69.85% to close at 0.13. Bitdeer Technologies Group (NASDAQ:BTDR) was also up 50.93% to close at 11.41.


Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) was the biggest loser with a 55.25% loss to close at 2.60. Shares of Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI) shed 43.68% to end the session at 1.07. Shares of Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:UPC) fell 37.35% to hit 0.52.


On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that fell in price exceeded the number of closed ones in positive territory, and quotes of 89 shares remained practically unchanged. On the NASDAQ, 2,117 stocks fell, 1,430 rose, and 127 remained at the previous close.


The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures S&P 500 options trading performance, fell 6.62% to 13.54, hitting a new three-year low.


Gold futures for August delivery fell 0.06%, or $1.25, to $1,000 a troy ounce. Futures for WTI crude for July delivery rose 1.47%, or $1.04, to $71.66 a barrel. Futures for Brent crude for August delivery rose 1.14%, or $0.86, to $76.53 a barrel.


In the Forex market, the EUR/USD pair remained virtually unchanged at 1.09, while USD/JPY quotes increased by 1.12%, reaching 141.86.


The price of the futures on the USD index rose by 0.16%, reaching 101.88.
